Overview:
Virasat is a premium celebration wear line by Mohanlal Sons, India’s oldest retailer in men’s ethnic and ceremonial apparel, with a legacy dating back to 1881. For over 140+ years, the brand has dressed generations of Indian men for their most important moments earning the trust of grooms, families, public figures, and professionals across the country.
Challenge:
With evolving tastes and a new generation of discerning consumers, Mohanlal Sons faced a nuanced challenge not of relevance, but of expression.
The brand had earned deep trust over decades, yet its legacy needed a contemporary articulation that could speak to modern luxury sensibilities without diluting its heritage. As men increasingly sought craftsmanship, sustainability, and exclusivity alongside tradition, there was a clear opportunity to create a space that celebrated the brand’s deepest values at a more elevated, curated level.
The question was not whether to evolve, but how to do so without disrupting lineage.
The Opportunity:
Under the leadership of CEO Mr. Mayank Mohan, the vision emerged to introduce Virasat a strategic expansion into luxury men’s fashion.
Virasat was conceived as a statement rather than a sub-line: a curated luxury expression that would position Mohanlal Sons as a one-stop fashion destination for discerning men, while setting new benchmarks for quality, sourcing, and experience.
Naming:
The name Virasat finds its meaning far beyond the literal translation of heritage or inheritance. Virasat represents the language of tradition values, artistry, and elegance passed down through generations. It speaks of lineage not as something preserved in the past, but as a living thread that connects history to the present, and style to soul.
Identity System:
Virasat is more than a generational transition representing a brand shift a bold stride from heritage to luxury, from memory to modernity. Rooted in lineage, yet designed for the future, Virasat becomes a bridge between eras. To make lineage visible, the founder became the emblem of Virasat. A single archival photograph of Lala Mohanlal Ji was restored and reimagined into a dignified 3D sculptural form. The final torso cut transforms it into a mark of lineage part portrait, part symbol eternalizing the founder’s presence in Virasat identity.
